Thursday, 18 December 2008 Holiday closings

I am very fortunate that my university closes from 25 December to 1 January, so I don't need to drain my vacation time dry in order to visit my family for the holidays. However, I got a reminder that I need to make this information public, so potential depository library users will know that we're closed.

I'm still pulling my display together, thanks to some other committee work that ate up the first week of September. I know what you mean - this is my first year as a docs librarian, and I feel like I want to have a part in everything! I'm having a h .....

Please share any ideas and thoughts you have about a registry for education and training resources. What needs should this registry serve? What topics should be included? How should content be solicited, and what factors should be considered in det .....

The Ohio regional coordinator is organizing our state's responses. Libraries have been asked to submit a Word or PDF copy of responses to the State Library of Ohio by May 31st, although earlier responses are welcome. GODORT of Ohio is meeting on Ma .....

Karen, Sorry, I initially posted this in the wrong forum. Will the menu on the RH side be automatically generated, or will GPO staff populate the Related Articles? I find the current site's News/Events particularly difficult to navigate, so this is .....

Karen, Would these tags be assigned to group together similar topics? How would this be different from the guidance associated with a specific requirement? I do like the idea of a keyword search, and I think that may be a very useful feature. - S .....

Karen, I also really like this improved design, particularly the fast links on top and the search options. I'm in favor of keeping at least some of the image slots to show libraries and government information users in action. - Shari

Karen, These all look great. One very minor comment: I was expecting to see suggested grade levels instead of suggested age levels. Was this change made for a particular reason? If not, I would suggest returning to grade levels to match commonly-use .....

I think that providing a blend of resources would help support as many needs as possible. Sometimes a full training session at a scheduled time is the best resource, particularly if there is an extensive Q&A session, while other times a brief doc .....

While this doesn't directly answer your question, GODORT's Government Information Technology Committee undertook some research in this area in 2009-10. Our final report and tool comparison chart is available from the GODORT wiki: [url:34oh1gmd]http&# .....

Karen, I like it! Overall, I think the extension of the bars and the higher contrast colors across the entire page make it look really good. In this particular image, the footer seems bigger (height- or thickness-wise) than would be ideal because t .....

Karen, I really like the new layout as well. One problem I have with the current page is that the top banner + information text takes up a significant amount of space on every page - in many cases, I need to scroll down to content once I've clicked .....
