If you're planning on being in Washington, D.C. for Inauguration Day, you might want to start booking that trip now.
The theme of Inauguration 2009 is "A New Birth of Freedom," in recognition of the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth.
Looking for tickets? In January 2009, a limited number will be distributed by Senators and Representatives to their constituents.
Tickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies will be provided free of charge and distributed through Members of the 111th Congress. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies does not provide tickets to the public. Members of the public interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremonies should contact their Member of Congress or U.S. Senators to request tickets.
Find more information on the website of the Joint Congressional Committee for Inaugural Ceremonies.
While the U.S. Senate oversaw the first 28 Inaugurations of both the President and Vice President, since 1901, all Inaugural ceremonies at the U.S. Capitol have been organized by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC).
The site has information on the history of the inaugural (including an image gallery of past ceremonies), press releases (unfortunately, there are no RSS feeds), and a schedule of events for January 20, 2009.
