Karen,

I like it! Overall, I think the extension of the bars and the higher contrast colors across the entire page make it look really good.

In this particular image, the footer seems bigger (height- or thickness-wise) than would be ideal because there's extra blank space.

I'd also suggest having a little "What am I searching?" helper to go with the quick search boxes, since I'm not sure what the difference would be between quick links and general site content. It might be interesting to find out what kinds of searches people want to do - maybe even a quick FDsys search?

Karen, from a design point of view, particularly as to colors, imagery, and text headers, I like the redesign. I think the colors work well, it in not too cluttered and it's possible to take it all in. Altogether nice work.
I am curious about the distinction between Highlights and News: Highlights= stuff from the book blog and such? News=Press releases and such?

Also, looking as this again raises for me the need to revisit the name FDsys. Maybe we can usability testing with college students?

Looking forward to the live product.

Thanks for the feedback Debbie! Highlights (the title is subject to change) can feature a variety of materials that are of interest to the community and may or may not have been released as an FDLP News item/listserv. One anticipated example is during the Biennial Survey response window, featuring the importance of the Biennial Survey in the highlights section will keep it on the radar even after the news article has been dated off of the homepage.

FDLP News is the official collection of news related to the Program. These are also distributed via email through FDLP-L and RSS.

A restructure of FDLP-L is pending that will provide users the ability to receive targeted messages based on categorization.

I sent Mary Alice a link to your forum post about FDsys. She will be in touch.

Re: ISO: Feedback on Proposed Template (New Concept)

Postby jdowgiallo on November 18th, 2011, 2:43 pm

The FDLP Desktop Web team has evaluated all of your excellent feedback received from the Depository Library Council Meeting and Federal Depository Library Conference back in October. Based on everything we learned, we are in the process of creating another new concept for the site design. Work on the homepage is in progress and we will share the revision of the proposed new design here upon completion in the near future.

Stay tuned! ;)

Based on emerging Web standards and feedback received from the community, the design of the FDLP Desktop has drastically changed.

Therefore, a new thread is being created to discuss the latest version of the design.

This thread is now locked.
