Question about authority control- FYI

Postby Melissa Fairfield on May 4th, 2012, 4:03 pm

We recently received the following question about authoriy control in CRDP records and thought the answer might be of interest to all:

When catalog records are prepared, is authority control performed on them?

The answer is YES-
The records you receive via the CRDP have already undergone authority control. Bibliographic records are sent to a reputable authority control vendor (under contract with LSCM) on the last Friday of the month and corrections to authorities and subject headings, along with reports, are returned approximately 48 hours later.

Bibliographic records and authorities are updated and records are sent to the Marcive for CRDP during the first week of the each month. This process includes bibliographic records with authority fields for names and for subjects.
