Gov Doc Kids Group

Gov Doc Kids Group

Gov Doc Kids Group is a national group of government information librarians, primarily from the Johnson County Library, Wichita State University, Kansas State University, the University of Kansas (all KS) and the National Archives-Kansas City (MO). Members are also based at Muskingum University in Ohio. The Group is co-sponsored by the Kansas Library Association Government Documents Roundtable (GODORT) and the Government Documents Roundtable of Ohio. Our goal is to promote government information in order to engage K-12 students in learning about history, culture, science, and government through games and other interactive activities; to assist teachers and school librarians with locating teaching aids, lesson plans, and exciting tools to enhance students' learning, and to provide librarians with a collection of free government resources to advance their reference interview and collection development decisions. Please join us here to share best practices in spreading the word about educational aspects of online government information.

Digital Deposit Documents to the People!

Digital Deposit Documents to the People!

Have you ever felt frustrated by merely selecting and "pointing" to online government information stored somewhere else and not in your own collection for you to possess, control, and preserve like a librarian should? Have you been wanting to build your own unique, digital depository collection tailored to your user community? The solution is "Digital Deposit"! Since GPO has been talking about the idea of digital deposit but has not yet started a formal program, we can begin by creating our own digital depository by collecting, disseminating, and preserving digital government information. If you already have a digital depository or are planning to start one, or just curious to learn more, then let's share tips, techniques, resources, and advice!
